Minot, North Dakota | July 11, 2026
The Souris Valley Amateur Radio Club hosted its 2026 Hamfest alongside the ARRL North Dakota Section Convention at the Minot City Auditorium. Talkpod supported the gathering through its Youth Amateur Program.
Making a new license useful
The event combined technical forums with free license testing. Students aged 18 and under who passed an exam received a handheld radio kit, giving young operators a way to begin applying what they had learned.
Seminars covered subjects including ARRL updates, regional nets, and ARES/Winlink operations. Social activities and a CW contest added opportunities for visitors to meet and exchange experience.
This combination of licensing, equipment, and community reflects the purpose of Talkpod's youth initiative: helping newcomers continue learning after their first achievement.
Thank you to the Souris Valley Amateur Radio Club, ARRL North Dakota Section leadership, and the volunteers who contributed to the event.
