Welcome to the Ortsverband Haan (R24)! Based in the heart of the North Rhine District of Germany, R24 has a fascinating history and continues to thrive today, thanks to the dedication of its members and their passion for amateur radio.
Revitalizing the R24 OV
For many years, the R24 OV was virtually silent on the airwaves, as its founding members moved away to follow their career paths. In 2010, however, a small group of radio enthusiasts stepped in to prevent the closure of the OV, successfully revitalizing it. The words of former OV chairman Friedhelm (DL8EAP) became a reality: "The DOK R24 is better than any amplifier!" Since then, the number of members has grown steadily from 6 to 19, and the OV is once again an active, dynamic presence.
Outdoor Activities and Fun
Contrary to the stereotype that ham radio enthusiasts are "shut-ins," the R24 OV is very active outdoors. Whether it’s participating in amateur radio direction finding (ARDF), contesting on VHF and HF bands, activating special areas for Diploma awards like WFF, or simply spending a weekend in the great outdoors to operate radios away from the city, R24 members are always looking for fun and exciting opportunities. Their motto is clear: enjoy the experience, and have fun with fellow hams!
Casual and Uncomplicated
Unlike many other clubs that have fixed meeting schedules, R24 takes a casual approach to its gatherings. They meet 3-4 times a year based on spontaneous decisions, often at a member's house or a local venue. This approach keeps things fresh and avoids the monotony of routine meetings, allowing members to focus on what truly matters—fun, camaraderie, and mutual support.
