Radio Amateurs of Greater Syracuse: A Hub of Community and Communication

The Radio Amateurs of Greater Syracuse (RAGS), recognized by their call sign W2AE, has been a vital part of Syracuse's amateur radio community since its inception in 1957. Meeting monthly at the North Syracuse Community Center, RAGS unites a vibrant membership of 150 licensed amateur radio enthusiasts, with 110 affiliated with ARRL.

Dedicated to public service and emergency communication, RAGS is much more than a club; it’s a trusted community resource. Members engage in public service activities, support emergency communication efforts, and host an annual hamfest that brings together radio operators from across the region. The club also offers regular license test sessions and mentorship for new operators, fostering an inclusive environment for anyone interested in amateur radio.

The leadership team, led by President David A. Rice (KC2HO), alongside Secretary Anna Higgs (KD2ELT) and Vice President Douglas L. Falcon (N2JOM), ensures that RAGS continues to serve both its members and the community effectively. RAGS' monthly newsletter keeps members informed of upcoming events and club news, reinforcing a strong sense of community and shared purpose.
