The Morrow County Amateur Radio Service (MCARS), operating under the call sign W8NL, serves as a vital community resource for emergency communications in Morrow County, Ohio. The club focuses on providing reliable radio communications support during emergencies, as well as promoting the growth and education of amateur radio.
Club Mission and Activities
MCARS has been serving its community since its affiliation with the ARRL in March 2010. The club’s primary mission is to ensure emergency radio assistance for Morrow County, a key service that is crucial during times of disaster or need. In addition to emergency preparedness, the club offers educational programs and support to amateur radio enthusiasts.
Weekly Meetings and Services
The club meets every Saturday at 8:30 AM at the Edison Depot, providing an excellent opportunity for members to gather, discuss club activities, and participate in training or events. MCARS offers a variety of services, including:
- Mentoring: The club provides guidance to newer amateur radio operators, helping them grow their skills and knowledge.
- Repeaters: MCARS maintains and operates repeaters, enabling communication across Morrow County and enhancing radio coverage in emergency situations.
- Digital Modes, Contesting, and Public Service: Members can participate in digital modes, contests, and public service events that help the club strengthen its role in the community.
