Hungary: MOM Rádióklub – HA5KFV, A Legacy of Amateur Radio in Budapest

BUDAPEST, Hungary — The MOM Rádióklub, operating under the callsign HA5KFV, stands as a long-standing association for short-wave and ultra-short-wave amateur radio enthusiasts in Budapest. Located at Budapest XII. ker, Csörsz utca 18, the club holds its regular club days on Thursdays from 6:00 PM.

Established in 1971 as part of the then-Hungarian Defence Association (MHSz), the MOM Rádió klub has operated as an independent non-governmental organization since 1990. It maintains a permanent establishment within the MOM Cultural Centre, formerly the Hungarian Optical Works (MOM), from which the club derives its name. Sadly, the original MOM factory no longer exists.

The club is an active member of the Hungarian Radio Amateur Association (MRASZ) and powers its amateur radio stations with callsigns such as HA5KFV, HA5KKW, HA5KRR, and HG5M. The MOM Rádióklub continues to foster the spirit of amateur radio, connecting enthusiasts and preserving a rich history in Hungary's capital.
