BUDAPEST, Hungary — Founded in late 1998 by a group of passionate amateur radio enthusiasts, the Budapest Fővárosi Rádióamatőr Klub (Capital City Amateur Radio Club of Budapest), callsign HA5KDR, has become a cornerstone of Hungary's ham radio community. Located at Budapest XII. ker, Őzike utca 37, the club actively participates in contests, represents the community at professional forums, and drives advancements like new repeater installations.
Driving Collaboration, Education, and Innovation
The club is dedicated to several key objectives:
- Enhancing collaboration among amateur radio operators.
- Organizing, coordinating, and managing their diverse activities.
- Educating and improving the expertise of operators in both technical and operational fields.
- Encouraging the acquisition of foreign languages, broadening the horizons of its members.
HA5KDR partners with various educational institutions, from grammar schools to universities and youth organizations, aiming to spark interest in science, technology, and languages among young people.
Training the Next Generation of Operators
The club plays a crucial role in training aspiring radio amateurs. They offer prep-courses multiple times a year to prepare individuals for the amateur radio license examination administered by the NMHH (National Media and Infocommunications Authority of Hungary). These courses cover essential topics like analog and digital technology, radio communications operation, and provide valuable hands-on experience with on-the-air activity. Successful candidates then have the option to join the club.
A Force in Contests and Beyond
The Budapest Fővárosi Rádióamatőr Klub is a strong contender in both national and international amateur radio contests. Their radio stations benefit from favorable locations (high QTH) and are exceptionally well-equipped, providing outstanding opportunities for contest teams to excel. These stations are also subject to continuous upgrades, ensuring they remain at the forefront of the hobby.
Join the HA5KDR Community
The club warmly welcomes all licensed radio operators to join its ranks. If you're a licensed operator without your own setup, or simply eager to engage with a vibrant community, consider becoming a member. You'll gain opportunities to operate on the HF, VHF, and UHF bands using the club's equipment, and even from their dedicated contest stations.
New members are continuously enrolled. After reviewing and accepting the club's bylaws and ethical standards, simply fill out the registration form and email it to ha5kdr@ha5kdr.hu or bring it to a club day.
