BUDAPEST, Hungary — Founded in 1971 by a group of enthusiastic young amateur radio operators, the Bajcsy Rádióklub has evolved from a city-center club with homemade equipment to a formidable contest station in the Hungarian countryside. Its club station callsign is HA5KKC, while its renowned contest callsign is HG5C.
The club's primary location is in Budapest at Bp. XI. Duránci u. 5, with their dedicated contest station situated at Gyömrő, Üllői út 17.
Evolution of a Contest Powerhouse
In its early "golden age," the club operated with modest equipment, including homemade transmitters, an HW-100, TELRAD-200, FT-250, and a W3DZZ multiband dipole. This setup was enough to achieve over 100 country contacts, a significant feat at the time.
Today, the HG5C contest station boasts an impressive array of antennas designed for peak performance:
- A 6-element Ultrabeam replaced a pair of 4-element tribander Cubical Quads for 20-15-10 meters.
- A 2-element Cubical Quad for 40 meters remains in excellent condition.
- Dipoles are used for 80 and 160 meters.
- A pair of stacked 5-element Yagis are employed for 6 meters.
- A rotary WARC dipole is also mounted on the same tower.
- The club recently upgraded from a Spiderbeam to a Mosley TA-34-XL.
QSL Information and Community Spirit
HG5C does not collect paper QSL cards, but they are certainly answered. Direct QSL cards should be sent via HA5MA. The club's QSL card proudly displays the callsigns of some of its dedicated members.
The Bajcsy Rádióklub cherishes its community, fondly remembering past members like Mike (HA/WØYR) and Tom (HA/N9NC), highlighting the strong friendships forged through their shared passion.
