Chenango Valley Amateur Radio Association: Fostering Amateur Radio Community in Central New York

The Chenango Valley Amateur Radio Association, Inc. (CVARA), based in Norwich, NY, is a vibrant club with a dedication to promoting amateur radio through a wide range of activities and resources. Affiliated with ARRL since 1969, CVARA operates two repeaters—a 2-meter and a 70cm repeater—as well as an APRS digipeater, all situated on a hilltop in Guilford, NY. These resources enable clear communication for both daily interactions and public service operations.

CVARA hosts regular monthly meetings, currently held on Zoom, where members connect and collaborate. The club also holds “Tech Night” on the third Thursday of each month at the Grange Hall in Norwich, where members explore hands-on projects in electronics and radio. A popular service offered by CVARA is the free walk-in VE sessions, held on the fourth Thursday of each month, where aspiring amateur operators can take license exams at no cost.

The club is led by President Matthew J. Jenne (KD2HKB), alongside Vice President Matt Strong (K2FRY), Secretary William M. Pratt (K2WMP), Treasurer Emily Goehner (WA2LFI), and Editor Thomas I. Mathewson (AD2TM). With its strong community presence and commitment to education, CVARA continues to be a pillar for amateur radio enthusiasts in the Chenango Valley area.
