About A.R.I.: A Legacy of Italian Radio

A.R.I., originally founded as "Associazione Radiotecnica Italiana" by Ernesto Montù in 1927, was later renamed "Associazione Radioamatori Italiani" in 1977. It's a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing together radio communication enthusiasts across Italy. Since 1950, by Presidential Decree 368, A.R.I. has been recognized as a Moral Entity, highlighting its significant role in the national landscape.

A.R.I. serves as Italy's representative within the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU), connecting Italian amateurs to the global community.

Structure and Purpose

A.R.I.'s national headquarters are located in Milan. The organization is structured into regional committees and local sections. Regional committees coordinate activities, mediate disputes, and represent members at national assemblies. Local sections, typically one per province (but more in densely populated areas), manage local activities.

The national body is led by a Board of Directors (CDN), comprising eight elected members (including the President, two Vice-Presidents, the National Secretary, and a Deputy Secretary) plus a representative appointed by the Ministry of Economic Development (Department of Communications). A Board of Auditors oversees the CDN's activities, manages elections, and reviews the budget. Regional and local levels also have their own governing bodies, operating autonomously within the framework of the national statute.

A.R.I.'s core mission is to support its members, provide services, coordinate and promote relationships with other radio and technology-focused institutions, and disseminate radio-electrical culture and technology.

Diverse Activities for Every Interest

A.R.I. members engage in a wide array of activities reflecting the diverse interests within amateur radio:

  • Global Communication: Simple radio communication with fellow radio amateurs worldwide.
  • Electronics & Propagation Studies: In-depth study of electronics applied to radio and the propagation of electromagnetic waves.
  • Self-Building: Constructing radio equipment, antennas, and various accessories.
  • Contests: Participating in competitive events with specific rules, where scores are calculated based on connections made, distance covered, and communication modes.
  • Radiotelegraphy (CW): Engaging in Morse code communication.
  • Digital Modes: Exploring various digital communication techniques.
  • Satellites: Utilizing amateur radio satellites for communication.
  • Emergency Communications (Civil Protection): Contributing to emergency communication networks for civil protection purposes.

"RadioRivista": The Official Voice

The official organ of A.R.I. is RadioRivista. This publication, distributed to members in both print and digital (PDF) formats, features social communications, technical articles, and news from the world of radio.

A.R.I. Lanciano, like other sections across Italy, plays a vital role in upholding this rich tradition and welcoming new generations to the exciting world of amateur radio.
