The Windmill Amateur Radio Group (W3LTR) is an active and educational amateur radio club based in Waymart, PA, serving Lackawanna and Western Wayne Counties, though open to all interested in joining. With its commitment to education and community involvement, the group encourages both new and experienced amateur radio operators to participate in their activities and programs.

What the Windmill Amateur Radio Group Offers

Educational Opportunities and Support for New Hams

The club is particularly focused on educational outreach, offering amateur radio presentations at their monthly meetings. These presentations are designed to help members expand their knowledge and skills. Additionally, members are always available to assist newcomers in obtaining their amateur radio licenses, making the club an ideal place for beginners to learn and grow within the amateur radio community.

Field Day and Special Events

As an active participant in ARRL Field Day, Winter Field Day, and events such as the PA QSO Party and Parks-on-the-Air (POTA), the Windmill Amateur Radio Group regularly engages in special activities that help to foster a strong sense of community and cooperation among ham radio enthusiasts.

Weekly Nets

The group holds several regular nets for members and non-members to connect and engage in conversation:

  • Weekly HF Net: Every Monday evening at 7:00 PM on 3.964 MHz.
  • VHF Club Net: Every Monday evening at 7:30 PM on the Red Rock Repeater (147.000 MHz, PL 77 Hz), which is linked to several other repeaters:
    • Elk Mt. Repeater (145.430 MHz, PL 77 Hz)
    • Montrose Repeater (147.375 MHz, PL 77 Hz)
    • Forkston Repeater (147.210 MHz, PL 77 Hz)
    • Wilkes Barre Repeater (146.460 MHz, PL 100 Hz)

These nets provide opportunities for all amateur radio operators to participate, whether or not they are members of the club.

License Classes and Mentorship

The Windmill Amateur Radio Group offers entry-level license classes as well as classes for general and higher licenses. The club is dedicated to mentoring new operators, guiding them through the process of obtaining their license and becoming active participants in the amateur radio community.

ARRL Affiliation

The club is officially affiliated with the American Radio Relay League (ARRL), with 80% of its voting members being ARRL members in good standing. This affiliation allows the club to participate in national events and access a wealth of resources to support its activities and members.
