The Butler County Amateur Radio Public Service Group (BCAR PSG), operating under the call sign K3PSG, is an essential part of Butler County, Pennsylvania's emergency communications infrastructure. Founded in 1995, the club focuses primarily on supporting local public service activities while fostering a diverse range of interests among its members. From contest participation to digital modes and emergency communications, BCAR PSG is dedicated to using amateur radio for the greater good.

What BCAR PSG Offers

Emergency Communications and Public Service

A significant portion of the club's activities is dedicated to public service. Many of its members actively participate in Region 13 ACS (Amateur Radio Communications) network, which supports local emergency management agencies. The club is involved in emergency communications, providing essential communication support during local crises and large-scale events.

Repeaters Across Butler County

BCAR PSG manages five repeaters located across Butler County that ensure seamless communication for local ham operators:

  • 147.300 MHz VHF at Alameda Park
  • 145.29 MHz VHF at Winfield Township
  • 442.9 MHz UHF at W. Sunbury
  • 443.2 MHz UHF at Winfield Township
  • 443.9 MHz UHF at the Butler EOC Ham Repeater

These repeaters are generously hosted by the Butler County Emergency Management Agency (EMA), ensuring a robust communications network. The club owns four of the repeaters, while the fifth is privately owned by one of the members.

Amateur Radio License Testing

BCAR PSG is committed to growing the amateur radio community. The club offers amateur radio license testing on request, with two regular testing sessions scheduled each month. In addition, special test sessions can be arranged to accommodate individual needs.

Monthly Meetings and Special Programs

Club meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month at the Butler County Emergency Operations Center. These meetings are open to all amateur radio enthusiasts, with occasional special programs or presentations on various topics relevant to the ham radio community.

Mentorship and Community Engagement

The club also offers mentorship programs for newcomers and less experienced operators, helping them navigate their amateur radio journey with the support of seasoned veterans. With a diverse membership, there's always a chance to learn from others and participate in exciting club activities.
