West Park Radiops ARC: A Legacy of Innovation and Community in Northeast Ohio

Tucked away in the vibrant heart of Northeast Ohio, the West Park Radiops Amateur Radio Club stands as one of the region’s oldest and most esteemed radio clubs. Founded in October 1947, it has not only withstood the test of time but thrived, celebrating its 74th anniversary as a beacon for amateur radio enthusiasts. Affiliated with the American Radio Relay League (ARRL), this club has been a cornerstone of technical innovation, offering a wide array of services ranging from contests and digital modes to public service and emergency communications.

Though the club’s in-person meetings are currently suspended due to the ongoing challenges of COVID-19, its members—34 strong—continue to gather virtually every second Friday of the month on Zoom. Their meeting time, 7:30 PM, remains a fixture of camaraderie and knowledge-sharing for members, most of whom reside in the Cleveland area.

Under the leadership of Glenn L. Williams (AF8C), a dynamic president and editor, and backed by an experienced team of officers, West Park Radiops remains dedicated to nurturing the next generation of radio amateurs. Whether through its newsletters, mentorship programs, or support for new technologies in VHF/UHF communications, the club offers both a home for passionate hobbyists and a platform for technical growth.

As one of the longest-standing amateur radio clubs in the region, West Park Radiops holds a legacy of resilience, adaptability, and community engagement that continues to inspire those interested in the fascinating world of ham radio.
