Northern Ohio Amateur Radio Society: A Hub of Community and Communication in Lorain County

Nestled in the heart of Lorain County, Ohio, the Northern Ohio Amateur Radio Society (NOARS) stands as a proud pillar of the amateur radio community. With a rich history dating back to its founding on January 19, 1972, this club has remained dedicated to both advancing the hobby and serving the public. Affiliated with the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) and recognized as a Special Service Club, NOARS has become a key player in Ohio's amateur radio scene.

Each month, members gather at the North Olmsted Public Library to share knowledge and grow the community, meeting on the third Monday at 6:30 PM. The club offers a wealth of services, including a monthly newsletter, license testing sessions, and even a Hamfest, ensuring that it caters to both seasoned operators and newcomers alike. For those interested in technical innovation, NOARS operates both a VHF and UHF repeater, featuring Echo-Link on the VHF and Yaesu System Fusion on the UHF, fostering a modern, connected amateur radio experience.

Beyond technical pursuits, the club’s members are deeply involved in public service, volunteering at various events throughout the year. Their commitment is particularly evident during Field Day, an annual event where they come together to simulate emergency communications, honing their skills and providing invaluable community service.

Led by a dedicated team including President John F. Dolinar (W8LYO) and Treasurer Eric K. Hatfield (KE8VZA), NOARS continues to foster a welcoming environment for amateur radio enthusiasts. With 95 members, the club thrives as a place for learning, mentorship, and community involvement, where individuals of all backgrounds come together to explore the limitless possibilities of ham radio.
