At the DARC Local Association Singen (A25), we are committed to promoting amateur radio as an international, well-regulated communication service. Amateur radio allows us to connect across borders, regardless of political regimes, enabling radio communications worldwide.
What is Amateur Radio?
Amateur radio is a globally recognized service regulated by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), allowing us to communicate across all national boundaries. This service is governed by the Amateur Radio Law in Germany, and it is overseen by the Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) to ensure compliance with regulations.
Amateur radio operates alongside other communication services like aviation, maritime, and broadcasting services. In the Bodensee region, we can receive broadcasts from Austria, Switzerland, and Germany using the same radio receivers due to international agreements.
International Understanding
One of the key aspects of amateur radio is its ability to facilitate international communication, fostering mutual understanding across all borders. Amateur radio operators engage with others regardless of differences in race, social status, or political views. This makes it a unique platform for peace and diplomacy, especially in regions experiencing political turmoil or conflict.
Humanitarian Assistance through Radio
Amateur radio operators are often the first responders in emergency situations when public communication networks are down. Whether it’s after natural disasters such as earthquakes in Armenia or Turkey, or flooding incidents like the Hamburg flood of 1962, amateur radio operators step in to restore vital communication channels, providing emergency assistance and saving lives.
