Vlaardingen, Netherlands — VERON Afdeling A59 Nieuwe Waterweg was founded on May 8, 1982, and serves nearly 100 members primarily located in the northern region along the Nieuwe Waterweg, stretching from Schiedam to Hoek van Holland.
Club Facilities and Location
The chapter's main location is in Vlaardingen, utilizing a spacious building within the Dr. Moerman allotment garden complex at Arij Koplaan 2.
- The club building features a small canteen offering reasonably priced coffee, tea, soft drinks, beer, and snacks. Members can also purchase local produce like vegetables, fruit, and honey from the allotment garden members, depending on the season.
- The location is easily accessible by public transport (Vlaardingen West metro station is within walking distance), as well as by bicycle and car, with ample parking available.
Club Station PI4VNW
VERON Nieuwe Waterweg is one of the few VERON chapters that boasts its own dedicated club station, PI4VNW, where "VNW" stands for VERON Nieuwe Waterweg.
- The station is equipped with both HF and VHF-UHF transceivers.
- It features a 20-meter high extendable mast, mounting a 3-element Fritzel Yagi antenna for the 10, 15, and 20-meter bands, and a VHF-UHF antenna.
- Members are also welcome to bring and operate their own equipment at the club.
Chapter Evenings
Club evenings are held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month.
- The location is open from 7:30 PM until approximately 10:00 PM.
- These evenings often include lectures and demonstrations. On other nights, there's always plenty of opportunity for various activities.
Activities at chapter evenings include:
- Experimentation
- Self-building projects
- QSL-card service
- Lectures and demos
- Exchanging experiences
- Operating the club station
- Sales days
- General socializing and discussion about the hobby
Other Activities
The chapter regularly organizes "external" activities, such as:
- Participation in field days.
- Involvement in the Lighthouse Weekend.
- Members are sometimes active from the Landtong Rozenburg, at the mouth of the Maas river.
- The PI4VNW club station occasionally participates in contests, and several members are active in the VERON Chapter Competition.
Weekly Radio Round
The Nieuwe Waterweg Ronde (radio round) is held every Sunday at 11:00 AM on 145.525 MHz FM.
Membership
Becoming a member of Afdeling A59 is straightforward: simply become a member of the national VERON organization. When you register, indicate that you wish to be assigned to A59 – Nieuwe Waterweg. There's a special rate for youth members.
