Talkpod Supports Youth Mentoring at WCARS Hamfest 2026

wcars hamfest 2026 - Talkpod Youth Amateur Program

Waynesville, North Carolina | July 25, 2026

The Western Carolina Amateur Radio Society brought the regional radio community together for its 2026 Hamfest at the Smokey Mountain Event Center.

Talkpod supported the ARRL-sanctioned gathering through its Youth Amateur Program, continuing its work with clubs that welcome younger members and newly licensed operators.

Building skills beyond a first radio

Technical discussions and equipment browsing give newcomers a place to begin. Continued involvement depends on local connections: mentors who explain operating procedures, answer questions, and encourage a beginner to keep experimenting.

Our program aims to support that progression by making equipment more accessible and helping clubs create opportunities for practical learning. Radio can introduce students to electronics, antennas, and the value of clear communication.

We thank Randy Harris, KI4VLW, the Hamfest Committee, and the Western Carolina Amateur Radio Society volunteers for their work supporting the regional amateur radio community.
