At the Chippewa Valley Amateur Radio Club's 2026 Hamfest, one young visitor reached two milestones: passing her Technician exam and receiving a Talkpod radio.
Chip Eckardt, W9OQI, later shared the story with us. The 13-year-old was delighted with the radio she received after her successful exam—a practical way to turn a new qualification into an opportunity to get on the air.
Helping an achievement become a habit
Talkpod supported the event through its Youth Amateur Program. The aim is to help young people move beyond exam preparation and continue learning through equipment use, club activities, and conversations with experienced operators.
Held at the Bloomer Fair Grounds, the hamfest brought the regional radio community together for equipment browsing, technical exchange, and fellowship.
Congratulations to the new licensee, and thank you to Chip Eckardt and the CVARC organizers for welcoming the next generation.
