Susquehanna County Amateur Radio Club (SCARC): Serving the Community with Enthusiasm and Expertise

The Susquehanna County Amateur Radio Club (SCARC), established in 1983, is a dynamic and engaged amateur radio organization based in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania. With 35 active members, the club plays a key role in promoting amateur radio, providing educational resources, and supporting public service efforts in the region.

Club Meetings and Activities

SCARC holds monthly meetings on the 4th Thursday of every month at 6:30 PM, typically at the Green Gables Restaurant, located on Route 11, New Milford, PA. These meetings are an opportunity for members to discuss various topics related to amateur radio, including upcoming contests, digital modes, DX (long-distance) communication, and general interests. The meetings also serve as a platform for planning events and projects that support both the club and the wider community.

Educational and Licensing Support

SCARC is deeply committed to fostering the next generation of amateur radio operators. The club offers entry-level license classes, as well as general or higher license classes, to help individuals develop their skills and earn their amateur radio licenses. The club also organizes license test sessions, providing aspiring operators with the opportunity to take their exams in a supportive and educational environment. Members are available to mentor newcomers, ensuring a smooth and informative journey into the world of amateur radio.

Public Service and Emergency Communications

As part of its mission to give back to the community, SCARC is involved in public service and emergency communications. The club participates in various local events, providing communications support for public activities and during emergencies. The club’s members are trained to handle emergency communication needs, ensuring that they can respond quickly and effectively when required.

Repeaters and Specialized Services

SCARC maintains a number of repeaters on both VHF/UHF frequencies, enhancing the coverage and reliability of communication in the region. The club also supports a Tvi/RFI Committee to address issues related to interference and radio frequency identification. This ensures that the club’s operations are smooth and efficient, minimizing disruptions in local communications.

Community Engagement and Networking

One of the hallmarks of SCARC is its ability to foster a strong sense of community among amateur radio operators. The club encourages collaboration through contest participation, digital modes, and youth group activities. SCARC's focus on inclusivity ensures that all members, regardless of experience level, feel valued and engaged.
