The Schenectady Museum Amateur Radio Association (W2IR) is a dedicated group of amateur radio enthusiasts based in Schenectady, New York. Affiliated with the Museum of Science and Innovation, SMARA has been a fixture in the local amateur radio scene since its establishment on April 9th, 1994.
Mission and Purpose
SMARA is committed to promoting the use of amateur radio for a variety of purposes, including:
- Contests, Digital Modes, DX operations, and VHF/UHF communications.
- Public service and emergency communications, supporting community needs.
- Engaging in educational activities, particularly with school and youth groups.
- Operating repeaters and offering license test sessions to encourage new amateur radio operators.
