In the heart of East Texas, nestled just 30 miles east of Tyler, the Rusk County Amateur Radio Club (RCARC) thrives as a hub for amateur radio enthusiasts. Established in the spring of 2013, this vibrant club has grown from a handful of passionate hams to a community dedicated to promoting the art and science of amateur radio.
A Gateway to Connection
Operating under the callsign N5RCA, RCARC serves its members and the broader amateur radio community through a variety of communication resources:
- VHF Repeater: Located in Henderson on 146.780 MHz with a -0.6 MHz offset and a 131.8 Hz PL tone, the repeater is open and free for all licensed amateurs to use.
- Winlink Gateway: The downtown Henderson gateway on 145.01 MHz offers Packet and VARA modes, providing a reliable communication channel for emergencies and general use.
Community and Learning
The RCARC is more than a club; it’s a community where seasoned operators mentor newcomers, and all members share in the joy of discovery. Weekly nets, held on Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., provide a platform for members to connect, practice their skills, and stay updated on club activities.
For new hams, these nets are a welcoming space to gain confidence on the airwaves. Additionally, the second Thursday of each month is reserved for the club’s monthly meetings, held at the S Main Church of Christ in Henderson.
A Hub of Activity
From Field Days to Fox Hunts, the RCARC offers a range of events that cater to diverse interests:
- Syrup Festival Support: Combining community service with radio operations.
- Antenna Build Nights: Hands-on workshops for creating and refining radio equipment.
- State Parks' Day: Showcasing the role of amateur radio in outdoor adventures.
