Repost: Ortsverband Schiefbahn (R33) - A Legacy of Passionate Amateur Radio Activity

The Ortsverband Schiefbahn (R33), founded in 1985, holds a special place in the DARC community. It has long been a hub for amateur radio enthusiasts in the region. The club’s legacy includes many significant milestones, including its impact on contest participation, youth engagement, and the promotion of amateur radio.

A Tribute to Bernhard (Ben) Klink, DG1EA

The passing of Bernhard Klink (DG1EA) in September 2017 marked a great loss for R33. Ben was an active member of the club and a passionate promoter of amateur radio. His legacy lives on through the club’s many activities, and his remarkable contributions to youth programs, including the AFU-AG (Amateurfunk-AG) at the St. Bernhard-Gymnasium, will always be remembered.

Ben’s dedication to contest participation and his enthusiasm for radio communications were evident. One of his most memorable accomplishments was the 1996 MIR space station contact, a defining moment for the club and the students he mentored.

Youth Engagement and Achievements

The Schiefbahn club has always been committed to involving the younger generation in the world of amateur radio. The club’s license courses and contest participation have inspired many to explore the hobby further. In the 2019/2020 license course, several new members were introduced to amateur radio, and Christoph (DM3CH), Oliver (DH1OL), and Waldemar (DL1WKD) proudly earned their new call signs.

Sonder-Rufzeichen and Achievements

The club has been active in numerous special call sign activities, such as the DL65DARC call sign activation to celebrate the 65th anniversary of DARC in 2015. This activation resulted in over 2,500 QSOs across the globe, with notable contacts in Australia, New Zealand, and the USA.

The club has also been involved in field activities such as the activation of DJ90IARU and DK65DARC, marking milestones in the club’s contesting and community contributions.

Ongoing Commitment to Amateur Radio

The Ortsverband Schiefbahn (R33) continues to be an active and welcoming community for all amateur radio enthusiasts, dedicated to exploring new technologies, contest participation, and youth involvement. The club’s Club Call DB0GX and the training station DN4SB remain key symbols of the club’s long-standing legacy and commitment to the hobby.
