Welcome to Ortsverband Freital (S27), a thriving amateur radio community located in Freital, Dresden, and the surrounding areas. Established in 1960, Freital’s roots in amateur radio run deep, with a rich history of active participation and contributions to the hobby.
A Storied Past in Amateur Radio
The S27 Freital OV is particularly proud of its role in bringing amateur radio to the region. In 1960, the first amateur radio club station, DM4KL, was licensed at the Glaswerk Freital. Over the years, the club has continued to foster growth, with several other club stations following suit, including:
-
1963: DM4WL in Kreischa
-
1965: DM4ZL at the Edelstahlwerk Freital
-
1966: DM5BL in Dorfhain
-
1969: DM5VL in Freital, Dresdener Straße 213
The Waldblickschule Freital-Raschelberg housed DM5VL starting in 1974, and after the German reunification, it became DLØFTL. Unfortunately, the club had to leave the Waldblickschule in 2003, but its spirit remained alive in new locations like Dresden and Bannewitz-Cunnersdorf.
Contests and Achievements
Today, the club’s passion for amateur radio shines through in its impressive contest results and technical pursuits. Among their recent achievements are:
-
CQWWDX 2024 CW: 634,410 points, #1 in Germany
-
WAG 2024: #28 in Germany
-
CQWWDX 2023 CW: 347,060 points, #3 in Germany
-
SP-DX 2023: 12,882 points, #2 in Germany
-
CQWWDX 2022 CW: 263,736 points, #1 in Germany
The Sächsischer Bergwettbewerb is another annual tradition where the S27 club continues to demonstrate its prowess.
A Community and Legacy
Though S27 Freital no longer has its own club rooms since 2010, the members remain committed to fostering a vibrant amateur radio community. The club meets regularly for OV-Treffs every second Friday of the month and participates in various activities, such as amateur radio direction finding and self-built equipment projects.
The club’s rich history and continuous engagement in the world of amateur radio exemplify the strong sense of community and passion for the hobby. Whether you're a seasoned ham or a newcomer, S27 Freital welcomes anyone interested in this dynamic and rewarding hobby.
