Robert, 9N7AA, has shared an update from his recent activities in Nepal. During his trip to the flatlands (February 18-21), he managed some long-awaited QSOs on 160m and 80m, with over 150 contacts on 160m and 430+ on 80m, primarily using FT8. Unfortunately, many of the 160m QSOs suffered from noise, making it difficult for CW or SSB contacts. The setup included a wire vertical for 80m and an Inv-L antenna for 160m, supported by an 18m SpiderBeam telescopic pole.
Despite challenges, Robert was able to make significant contacts with stations from Europe and Asia, as well as a few from the US on 80m, particularly in the NNW direction. Robert noted that the noise level was quite high, especially on 160m, which was mostly received with reports from -10 to -20 dB.
Robert also mentioned the area near Kathmandu, where he operated, as a potential site for future expeditions. After a few sleepless nights, he is now back in Kathmandu and resting.
