Reelfoot Amateur Radio Club: Service with a Signal

Nestled in the heart of Union City, Tennessee, the Reelfoot Amateur Radio Club (RARC) is a small but powerful group that exemplifies the true spirit of ham radio: community, service, and education. With 23 members (all of whom are licensed amateurs), this ARRL Special Service Club has been connecting individuals and providing critical communication services for nearly half a century.

A Legacy of Service and Communication

The Reelfoot Amateur Radio Club was founded in 1975, and since then, it has been an integral part of the region’s amateur radio community. The club meets monthly, on the fourth Thursday of each month at the Obion County Library in Union City. Whether you're looking to get involved in digital modes, contest operation, DX, or public service, Reelfoot offers something for everyone.

But it's more than just a group of radio enthusiasts—it’s a club with a mission. Several members of the Reelfoot ARC are also part of the Obion County Local Emergency Planning Commission, ensuring that the club is always prepared for public service and emergency communications. The club’s commitment to emergency readiness is a core part of its identity, with members always ready to spring into action when disaster strikes.

Serving the Community and the Hobby

The Reelfoot ARC isn’t just about emergency preparedness—education is key. The club offers general or higher license classes and license test sessions, welcoming newcomers and guiding them as they begin their journey into amateur radio. As a mentor to both newcomers and seasoned operators, the Reelfoot ARC ensures that knowledge and passion for the hobby are passed down through the generations.

Additionally, the club hosts an annual hamfest, where members can come together, exchange equipment, and share ideas. It’s not just about radios; it’s about building a community of like-minded individuals who share a passion for technology, service, and communication.

On-Air and In-Service

The club’s repeater is a vital resource for both members and the local community. As part of their mission to foster communication, the club broadcasts on-air bulletins to keep members informed about upcoming events, meetings, and the latest club news.

For members and non-members alike, the Sunday night net on the 146.70 MHz repeater offers an opportunity to check in and connect with others in the area. It's a simple way for local hams to keep in touch, share updates, and offer support to one another.

Meet the Team

Leading the charge at the Reelfoot Amateur Radio Club is James C. Hall WB4YDL, the club’s president, who works tirelessly to keep the club running smoothly. Alongside him is Noel W.
