Preble Amateur Radio Association: Fostering Community and Communication in West Central Ohio

Established around 1978, the Preble Amateur Radio Association (PARA) has been a cornerstone for amateur radio enthusiasts in West Central Ohio. Operating under the call sign K8YR, PARA is dedicated to promoting the art and science of amateur radio through education, community service, and fellowship.

Meetings and Activities

PARA holds its monthly meetings on the first Sunday of each month at 5:00 PM at the Preble County Emergency Management Agency, located at 6818 Route 127 North, Eaton, Ohio. Following the club meeting, the Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) meeting convenes at 6:00 PM. These gatherings provide members with opportunities to:

  • Share knowledge and experiences in amateur radio.
  • Discuss the latest advancements in radio technology.
  • Plan and coordinate community service and emergency preparedness activities.

Repeaters and Communication

The association operates two repeaters in the Eaton area to facilitate communication among members and the broader amateur radio community:

  • 145.470 MHz (- offset) with a 100 Hz tone
  • 442.900 MHz (+ offset) with a 100 Hz tone

These repeaters are crucial for local communication, emergency coordination, and support during public events.
