Amid the scenic stretches of Puerto Rico’s countryside, along Road #124 at kilometer 24.6, stands a modest yet resolute beacon of amateur radio excellence—the Patriot Amateur Emergency Radio Club (PAERC). Founded with a mission to provide reliable communication during times of need, this ARRL-affiliated group has become a cornerstone of emergency preparedness and public service since its inception in July 2016.
A Club Built on Dedication
With just six passionate members, each one a licensed amateur radio operator, PAERC thrives on a foundation of mutual respect and shared goals. These individuals are united not by numbers, but by a steadfast commitment to using their skills to benefit the community.
At the helm of this dedicated team is Eng. Juan Sepulveda Mercado (KP3CR), who serves as the club’s contact and president. Alongside him, Pedro G. Irizarry (KP3PI) as Secretary and Jose J. Santiago Rios (KP3CU) as Editor ensure that PAERC operates with precision and purpose.
A Platform for Learning and Service
PAERC is more than a club—it’s a community-driven initiative aimed at empowering individuals and strengthening resilience. Here’s what PAERC offers:
- General or Higher License Classes: Encouraging education and licensing for new and aspiring operators.
- Mentorship Programs: Supporting skill development for both beginners and seasoned enthusiasts.
- Repeaters: Providing reliable communication channels across the region.
The club’s specialties extend to contests, youth engagement, and public service/emergency communication, making it a versatile and impactful presence in the amateur radio community.
Weekly Meetings with a Purpose
Every week at 7 PM local time, PAERC members convene to exchange ideas, refine their skills, and discuss strategies for community service. These gatherings are not just meetings; they’re a reaffirmation of their mission to serve others through the art and science of radio.
A Small Group with a Big Impact
Despite its size, PAERC plays a crucial role in its region, offering a lifeline during emergencies and fostering a spirit of camaraderie among its members. The club’s affiliation with ARRL further amplifies its reach, connecting it to a global network of amateur radio operators.
PAERC’s presence on Facebook serves as a window into their activities, a platform for outreach, and a rallying point for like-minded individuals interested in joining their cause.

The Patriot Amateur Emergency Radio Club welcomes individuals who share their passion for communication and public service. Whether you’re an experienced operator or a curious beginner, PAERC offers an opportunity to learn, connect, and contribute.
