Ortsverband St. Ingbert (Q02) - A Rich Legacy of Amateur Radio

Welcome to Ortsverband St. Ingbert (Q02), a cornerstone of Amateur Radio in the Saar region. Established in 1951, this club has played a significant role in shaping the history and growth of amateur radio, particularly in Saarland.

A Storied History in Amateur Radio

The roots of the Q02 club stretch back to the founding of the KWACS (Kraftwerk Amateurfunk Club Saar), where Otto Sailer (9S4AJ) and Alfons Mura (9S4AG) were instrumental in establishing the first amateur radio group. Over the years, many dedicated operators, including Rudi Rees (9S4BZ) and Franz Pressmann (9S4CA), have contributed to the club’s enduring legacy.

In December 1991, the 9S4 call signs were converted to DL8 call signs, marking a significant milestone for the club's operations and expansion. Today, the club continues to uphold the spirit of amateur radio with a diverse group of 26 active members from various backgrounds.

Current Activities and Special Events

The club's activities reflect a vibrant blend of tradition and modernity. Key annual events include online license courses for aspiring amateurs and field activities like the 500th Anniversary of Martin Luther in 2017. Their License Course 2019/2020 introduced new members to amateur radio, with many progressing to Class A licenses.

In January 2021, the club held its License Course for Class E, offering an online format that attracted participants beyond the Saarland borders.

Modern Developments and Ongoing Initiatives

In the modern age of digital communication, questions like "Why use radio when smartphones are available?" are often raised. The answer, however, lies in the joy of experimenting, learning, and maintaining the traditions of radio communication. The Q02 club continues to thrive by organizing events, hosting bi-weekly meetings, and fostering a community where enthusiasts can exchange knowledge and ideas.

The club meets on 145.550 MHz and 3.660 MHz, keeping the spirit of amateur radio alive and accessible.

Leadership and Community

Under the leadership of Albert Schmitt (DD3VV), the club continues to promote Amateur Radio as a fulfilling and accessible hobby. The team, including Oliver Ballas (DB1BO) as deputy chair and Jürgen Borner (DB3VU) managing QSL and finances, ensures the ongoing success of the Q02.
