Ortsverband Saarbrücken (Q01) - Connecting through Amateur Radio

Amateurfunk in Saarbrücken isn't just a hobby—it's a dynamic experience where technology meets community. Ortsverband Saarbrücken (Q01), a hub for ham radio enthusiasts, continues to lead the way in connecting people locally and globally.

A Dynamic Hub for Local and International Engagement

Founded on the spirit of open communication, the club thrives on its diverse activities that cater to various interests in the amateur radio world. From contests to educational programs, members enjoy a wide spectrum of experiences. Their DLØGS club station serves as a pivotal point for operations on 145.450 MHz, with regular OV-Abende (club evenings) held every second Tuesday at 19:00.

Saarbrücken's Contest Team kicks off every season with exciting events, such as the March start of the 2025 contest season, offering an open microphone for members to gain hands-on experience with UKW DX contacts.

Highlighting Community Engagement

Saarbrücken's commitment to outreach and engagement is showcased during their special events. The Grillen unter der Antenne (Grilling under the Antenna) event held on the weekend of August 3-4, 2024, brought together enthusiasts for a blend of technical talks and live SSTV transmissions. This event also featured a captivating presentation by Jean Luc F1ULQ, who discussed his DX expedition experiences to Mayotte and Comoros. The focus on SSTV (Slow Scan Television) not only educated but also encouraged interaction, embodying the spirit of ham radio.

Jahreshauptversammlung & Club Leadership

The Annual General Meeting (Jahreshauptversammlung) in June 2024 highlighted the strong leadership within the club. Claudia Greinwald (DL3CL) was re-elected as chair, with Hans Schuh (DK3IO) and Heinrich Probst (DL8GA) taking on key roles as deputy chair and treasurer, respectively. The club's ability to maintain active leadership is fundamental to its continued success, with key members ensuring the smooth running of events, including the DF4T contest team.

Educational Impact: Advancing Knowledge and Skills

In June 2024, the novel Amateurfunkverordnung (Amateur Radio Regulation) came into effect, bringing expanded privileges for amateur radio operators. This move included provisions for remote operation, a new entry-level license class, and improved training pathways. The club actively supports these changes by offering training courses and ensuring members remain up-to-date with the evolving regulations.

Additionally, the club's participation in the Saarländische AmateurFunk-Ausstellung (SAFA) in April 2024 highlighted their role in both education and public outreach, with hands-on demonstrations of new technologies, such as SSTV transmissions, alongside a wide range of amateur radio gear.

Looking Ahead: Engaging Future Generations

Saarbrücken is also heavily invested in the future of amateur radio. With its vibrant youth programs and collaborations with local schools and institutions, it provides an opportunity for newcomers to discover the world of amateur radio. The Saarbrücken OV remains committed to creating more opportunities for future generations to explore the exciting world of communications and technology.
