Northern Chautauqua Amateur Radio Club (NCARC)

Since its establishment in 1930, the Northern Chautauqua Amateur Radio Club (NCARC) has played an integral role in fostering the amateur radio community in Dunkirk, New York, and its surroundings. With a longstanding commitment to public service and emergency preparedness, NCARC offers a space where both novice and experienced operators can connect, learn, and serve.

NCARC’s activities emphasize modern radio practices, particularly in digital modes and VHF/UHF communication, enabling members to stay on the cutting edge of amateur radio technology. The club’s monthly meetings, held on the third Thursday at 7 PM in Dunkirk’s College Incubator Building, provide a forum for discussing advances, troubleshooting, and strengthening skills across various specialties. The meetings are an essential gathering for the club’s 16 members, who also share the common aim of supporting the region’s emergency communications.

Operating the W2SB repeater, NCARC maintains an accessible communication network, essential for public service activities and member interaction. The club’s mentorship and regular license test sessions reflect its dedication to fostering new talent within amateur radio, offering hands-on support and guidance to those eager to join the field.

Under the leadership of President James E. Mohney (WA2DFN), and with the support of officers including Vice President Joshua H. Spinler (KD2KHD), Treasurer Daniel S. Riewaldt (KC2LFV), and Secretary Alayna A. Spinler (KD2KHF), the Northern Chautauqua Amateur Radio Club continues to enrich the local radio landscape.
