Medina County Amateur Radio Club: A Legacy of Service and Education

Located in Medina County, Ohio, the Medina County Amateur Radio Club (MCARC), also known as the Medina 2 Meter Group, has been a cornerstone of the local amateur radio community since its founding in 1932. With the call sign W8EOC, the club continues its legacy of public service, education, and fellowship, having been in continuous operation since 1975.

A Club Rooted in Community Service
The Medina County Amateur Radio Club is dedicated to providing public service, with a focus on emergency communication. As an ARRL Special Service Club, the organization is committed to supporting local needs, whether in disaster situations or other times of public crisis. Members of the club are often called upon for their expertise in emergency communications, and they work closely with local authorities to ensure that critical information is communicated effectively when it's needed most.

Meetings and Membership
The club gathers on the second Monday of every month at the Medina County Career Center (JVS). The meetings are held at 7:00 PM and provide a space for members to discuss everything from the latest amateur radio technologies to ongoing public service efforts. The club prides itself on being a welcoming community, and anyone interested in joining is invited to attend. With a membership of 67, including 66 licensed amateur members and 41 ARRL members, the club is one of the largest and most active in the region.

Educational Focus and Community Outreach
MCARC offers a range of educational programs designed to help both new and experienced operators improve their skills. These include mentoring programs, online newsletters, and access to the club’s repeater system. The club also emphasizes digital modes and VHF/UHF operations, making it a great resource for those interested in these specialized areas of amateur radio.

The club’s emphasis on education extends beyond just radio technology; it also works to foster a strong sense of community among amateur radio enthusiasts. Whether through contests, DXing, or regular public service activities, members of the Medina County Amateur Radio Club enjoy learning, sharing knowledge, and contributing to the broader world of amateur radio.
