PAKS-ÜRGEMEZŐ, Hungary — The ASE Rádióamatőr SC (ASE Amateur Radio Sports Club), operating under the callsign HA3DX from its club station at the Paks Nuclear Power Plant in Vácika dűlő, Paks-Ürgemező, is mourning the loss of a significant figure in Hungarian amateur radio.
It was with deep sadness that the club announced the passing of János Mach (HA3UU), who became a Silent Key on Sunday, March 21, 2021, at nearly 73 years old.
János Mach was a towering figure in the amateur radio community, celebrated as a 4-time Amateur Radio World Champion. He was not only the founder and president of the HA3DX club station but also a highly active contester and DX-er. Members remember him as a dear friend and mentor, whose passion and encouragement inspired many, including Charlie (HA4XH), who credits János with encouraging him to obtain his own ham license.
The amateur radio community will deeply miss hearing HA3UU on the air. Rest in peace, János.
