Hall of Science Amateur Radio Club Inc: Fostering STEM through Amateur Radio

The Hall of Science Amateur Radio Club (HOSARC), call sign WB2JSM, is a beacon for science enthusiasts and amateur radio operators alike. Established in 1973 and meeting monthly on the third Wednesday at 7:30 PM at the Coast Guard Auxiliary building at Fort Totten in Queens, NY, HOSARC embodies a unique blend of science, technology, and community service. The club’s affiliation with the New York Hall of Science adds a distinctive dimension, emphasizing its commitment to educational outreach and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) principles.

Focused on diverse specialties such as digital modes, contesting, DXing, and VHF/UHF operations, HOSARC offers numerous services, including entry-level and advanced license classes, regular license testing, and repeater access. The club also hosts a Hamfest, drawing radio enthusiasts from across the region to celebrate the vibrant amateur radio culture.

Led by President Martin L. Grillo (W1EMR), Treasurer Stephen Greenbaum (WB2KDG), and Secretary John Hale (KD2LPM), HOSARC has grown to 50 dedicated members, 46 of whom are licensed amateur operators. The club’s alignment with the values of public service and emergency preparedness reinforces its position as a vital community resource, especially within the school and youth groups in the New York area. With a tradition of innovation and inclusivity, HOSARC continues to inspire and educate the next generation of radio enthusiasts.
