Discovering the Main-Taunus Local Chapter (F27) of the German Amateur Radio Club (DARC)

Welcome to the Main-Taunus Local Chapter (F27) of the Deutscher Amateur Radio Club e.V. (DARC), where the legacy of amateur radio is celebrated and nurtured in the heart of Liederbach in the Vordertaunus region.

Founded in 1960, the F27 chapter is home to approximately 130 members who share a passion for the art and science of radio communication. As part of DARC, which represents the interests of amateur radio operators across Germany, F27 plays an integral role in keeping the spirit of this hobby alive and growing.

The chapter enjoys strong support from the community of Liederbach, which has provided the club with its own club building and even approved the installation of a club station with an antenna mast. These facilities are used by active members twice a week for OV evenings, which take place every Tuesday and Friday starting at 8:00 PM. Every second Friday of the month, an information evening is held, where the board updates members on upcoming activities and changes within the club.

In addition to regular meetings, the club hosts film screenings, technical lectures, training sessions, and hands-on workshops focused on amateur radio technology. The club's building consists of a guest room, a training room, and a storage area for contest equipment. The atmosphere is lively, with members often engaging in technical discussions at the bar or around the tables, and guests are always welcome.

The club’s location at Feldstraße 6 in 65835 Liederbach provides a central meeting point for enthusiasts, and members can also join the OV round via 144.780 MHz simplex or via DQ4T on Echolink.

Recently, the F27 chapter hosted the F27 Challenge 2024, and congratulations are due to Jürgen (DC8SG) on the HF band and Dieter (DL5FN) on VHF for securing top spots. Despite a decrease in the number of participants on HF from 12 to 7, and a decline in VHF participation, the event was a success, demonstrating the continued enthusiasm for amateur radio in the chapter.

For more information on upcoming events, challenges, and opportunities to get involved, visit the F27 chapter’s website. Join in the fun, connect with fellow radio enthusiasts, and contribute to the future of amateur radio in the Main-Taunus region.
