About Us
The Canberra Region Amateur Radio Club (CRARC)—callsigns VK1ACA, VK1WI, VK1C—has been a cornerstone of amateur radio in the ACT since its establishment in 1951 at the original ABC radio studios in Canberra.
In 1956, ACT amateurs were issued the VK1 prefix, and by 1957, the club became the Canberra Radio Society. Later, in 1973, the VK1 Division of the Wireless Institute of Australia (WIA) was formed. Following the national restructuring of the WIA in 2004, the VK1 Division transitioned into the Canberra Region Amateur Radio Club, inheriting the legacy of the Canberra Radio Society.
