In the heart of West Texas lies a dedicated group of amateur radio enthusiasts committed to communication, community service, and camaraderie. The Hockley County Amateur Radio Club (WB5EMR) brings together members of all experience levels to explore the dynamic world of amateur radio while supporting their local community.
A Gathering Place for Enthusiasts
The club meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM in the Levelland Fire Department Training Room. These monthly meetings serve as an opportunity for members to share knowledge, discuss technical topics, and plan initiatives for supporting public service and emergency communication efforts.
A Broad Spectrum of Interests
Since its affiliation in July 1994, the Hockley County ARC has developed a diverse focus, encompassing:
- Digital Modes and VHF/UHF Operations: Exploring cutting-edge radio technologies.
- Public Service and Emergency Communications: Offering vital support to local authorities and ensuring preparedness for emergencies.
- Mentorship for New Hams: Fostering a welcoming environment for newcomers to learn and grow in the hobby.
Leadership Committed to Community
Under the guidance of Whitney R. Owens (N5QNS), who serves as the club’s President and Secretary, and Genor G. Golightly (KC5TNB), the Vice President, the Hockley County ARC emphasizes teamwork and inclusivity. Together, they ensure the club remains a vital resource for amateur radio enthusiasts in Levelland and surrounding areas.
A Community-Focused Mission
With 21 licensed members, the club is small but mighty, taking pride in its role as a general-interest group. Members actively engage in:
