Community Service: DCI LT005 Activation and Civil Protection Anniversary
On Sunday, May 27, an event celebrating 30 years of Civil Protection in Cisterna di Latina took place in Piazza 19 Marzo, in front of the historic Palazzo Caetani. For this special occasion, ARI Cisterna activated the DCI LT005 reference (Cisterna Castle, Palazzo Caetani) and set up a demonstrative APRS station as IQ0CI/0.
Many friends and curious individuals attended, asking questions and observing the radio operations. Participants included I0OMM, IK0HAX, IK0VVE, IK0XIH, IZ7BOJ, among other friends and OMs (Old Man - a term for radio amateurs) who joined throughout the morning. The Mayor of Cisterna di Latina, the Deputy Commander of the Urban Police, the Commander of the Carabinieri, and the Commander of the Guardia di Finanza all paid a welcome visit to the section's tent, which was set up directly by Civil Protection.
The section expressed gratitude to everyone who made contacts on the 40 and 20-meter bands, hoping to reactivate the reference soon and surpass the 136 QSOs made in just two hours of activity. Special thanks were extended to Marcello Meddi, the President of Civil Protection, for his complete support. Photos of the event and activation are available on their blog.
