Amateur Radio Association of the Tonawandas: A Community Beacon for Amateur Operators

The Amateur Radio Association of the Tonawandas (ARATS), operating with the call sign W2VCI, stands as a vital gathering point for amateur radio enthusiasts in Tonawanda, NY. Since its ARRL affiliation in 1955, the club has grown into a robust community offering a range of services including mentoring, on-the-air bulletins, and regular nets open to all—no membership required. These include a Tuesday night net on 28.450 MHz at 8 PM and a Thursday night net on 146.955 MHz at 8:30 PM. On Saturdays at 9 PM, members and listeners can tune into the ARRL Audio Newsline on the W2VCI repeater.

Monthly meetings are held every third Wednesday from September to June at the City of Tonawanda Municipal Building, where members gather to share insights, discuss digital modes, public service, and emergency preparedness. Led by President Robert T. Fleischauer (KC2SZQ), the club remains dedicated to community engagement and skill-building for amateur operators.

With a current membership of 45 and an emphasis on inclusivity, ARATS serves as an enduring beacon for the amateur radio community in Western New York. For more details, visit the Amateur Radio Association of the Tonawandas website.
