The 3Y0K team has officially launched its first major team workshop and equipment shakedown in Oslo, Norway, running through May 4. Spirits are high as the operators begin testing gear, pitching tents, and preparing antennas for the extreme conditions expected on Bouvet Island. The team is using tried-and-tested Arctic Lavvo tents from the 3Y0J expedition, with Barent’s Outdoor supplying the smaller sleeping tents.
Key supporters are already contributing to the mission's success. The German DX Foundation (GDXF) has generously donated €10,000, and DX-World has helped with tools and logistics, including the critical shipping container access tool.
Antennas are being pre-tuned and marked for quick deployment when the team lands at Cape Fie in February 2026. This will save valuable time in the harsh Bouvet environment.
📡 Mission Goals:
-
24 international operators
-
Up to 12 stations active on 10–160m plus QO-100 satellite
-
Modes: CW, SSB, FT8, RTTY, and QO-100
-
Focus on ATNOs and targeting North America from upper camp
-
Licensed and cleared to land by helicopter, supported by Ultimate Aviation and ICETUGS
🧊 Why It Matters:
Bouvet is the #10 Most Wanted DXCC (ClubLog), and known as the most remote uninhabited island on Earth, 93% covered in ice. The team's logistics involve a $1.65 million budget — most of which funds icebreaker transit, helicopters, fuel, and extreme-weather gear.
Donations are vital. Notably:
-
NCDXF has pledged up to $200,000, including a $100K match challenge
-
Equipment sponsors include DX Engineering, Icom, RF Power, and ACOM
📍 The sea journey begins February 1, 2026, from Cape Town.
