🧭 A Bold New Chapter in DXing
Amateur Radio DXpeditions (ARD) has officially unveiled plans for a high-impact DXpedition to South Georgia Island, one of the top-ranked DXCC Most Wanted entities, set for March 2027. Operating under the callsign VP0SG, this venture promises to be one of the most challenging and anticipated activations in recent years.
🏔️ Challenges & Logistics
South Georgia's remote sub-Antarctic location, severe weather, and strict environmental protections make access notoriously difficult. ARD has been in close negotiations with the Government of South Georgia & the South Sandwich Islands (GSGSSI) to secure the required onshore operation permits.
To overcome logistical obstacles, the team has secured a rugged, ice-strengthened expedition vessel, commonly used in polar science missions. This ship will serve as a mobile support base, allowing low-impact landings and robust operational support for the team.
🌍 Vision & Values
“Our goal is to deliver a world-class, environmentally responsible DXpedition with global reach.”
— Rune, LA7THA, ARD Leadership
Key pillars of the VP0SG DXpedition include:
-
Technical innovation
-
Sustainable operation
-
Youth mentorship
-
Global amateur radio collaboration
ARD is now actively seeking sponsors and partnerships to help realize this extraordinary project.
