Krish, W4VKU, has successfully completed his self-funded, one-man DXpedition from the Andaman Islands under the callsign VU4A. His operation, which resulted in over 30,000 QSOs, was a significant achievement, especially as it was aimed at reaching out to operators he could not connect with during his previous trip in 2023.
Krish’s efforts were focused on giving DXers the chance to work VU4 on bands they hadn't been able to reach for years. Moving nearly one tonne of equipment to the island, he deployed a phased array for 160m, which proved highly effective, enabling contacts on that band with stations who had not worked it in over 10 years. He also operated on 60m and set up a 5-element 6m yagi, resulting in surprise openings and further opportunities for contacts.
In addition to his technical setup, Krish was able to accommodate special requests from DXers who needed VU4 for new entities, adding extra value to his operation. Despite the challenges of managing the logistics and equipment in such a remote location, Krish felt fulfilled with his accomplishments.
His commitment to the operation was clear – choosing to reactivate VU4 instead of relaxing on a beach with a drink and a cigar is a testament to his dedication to the DX community.
Once Krish receives his LoTW certificate, he plans to upload the entire log. He will also make any necessary log corrections once he is back on the mainland.
This DXpedition serves as an example of the hard work and effort that goes into running operations in remote locations. It’s a reminder of the value of these self-funded missions and the impact they have on the global DX community.
