About Us
The West-Mittelfranken Amateur Radio Club (B44) was founded to serve the region of West-Mittelfranken and is designed to bring together amateur radio enthusiasts of all kinds. Whether you're into traditional Morse code, satellite communication, or digital modes, our club is a place to learn, share, and grow together.
We’ve grown quickly since our founding in early 2023 with the support of the DARC board, and we now proudly have 38 members, with a 29% female and youth participation rate. Our area of influence spans a wide region, and we aim to fill a gap for radio enthusiasts by providing an active space for education, collaboration, and community building.
Our Activities
We are more than just a group of people focused on the technical side of amateur radio. We help newcomers to the hobby by offering educational support, including license exam preparation, building a home station, or setting up portable/mobile operations. Whether at home or out in the field, our members love to experiment with radio technology in diverse environments. We even communicate via satellite and on the International Space Station (ISS)!
Why We Are Different
Our club offers a broad range of activities beyond just radio transmission. We strive to be inclusive, welcoming anyone with an interest in radio, technology, or just the joy of learning. We are constantly in touch with fellow enthusiasts, both licensed and unlicensed, who possess specialized knowledge, to create a space where we can learn from each other. We believe knowledge-sharing strengthens the amateur radio community and the hobby.
We are dedicated to youth involvement, and one of our recent initiatives was awarding a Morse code diploma to a young participant, which was followed immediately by a soldering certification.
