VP6RD – Pitcairn Island

VP6RD – Pitcairn Island

Dates: Late March – April 6, 2025
Operators: Thor (DK7RD/VP6RD) and Marco (DM5MR/VP6MR)

Thor and Marco wrapped up their adventure from the remote and rarely activated Pitcairn Island, operating primarily SSB on 10m, 20m, and 17m. They took part in the CQ WPX Contest, ran multiple pileups, and handed out many All-Time New Ones (ATNOs)—especially appreciated by operators hungry for voice contacts amid the growing FT8-only trend.

Highlights:

  • Main bands: 10m, 12m, 17m, and 20m SSB

  • Final activity: 20m and 17m on April 6 around 0530–0600z

  • QSL via DK7RD, with LoTW uploads confirmed

Despite some local QRM at Marco’s QTH, both operators made great efforts to stay active, share photos, and keep the community updated—earning high praise for operating in “human modes.”

This trip was described as the "trip of a lifetime", and Thor’s updates and pictures made it all the more memorable for the DX community.
