One of the rarest DXCC entities hits the airwaves
In March 2024, a dedicated team of operators embarked on a DXpedition to Ducie Island, one of the most remote and sought-after DXCC entities in the world. Operating under the callsign VP6DF, this expedition was part of a two-part activation, with VP6G (Pitcairn Island) following shortly after.
Ducie Island, located in the South Pacific and part of the Pitcairn Islands group, is rarely activated — making this event a major highlight for DXers globally. The team operated from March 6–14, 2024, making a total of 74,060 QSOs across all continents.
The VP6DF team ran stations on multiple bands and modes, including CW, SSB, and FT8, under extremely challenging environmental and logistical conditions. Their efforts were highly appreciated by the amateur radio community, who had been waiting years for another Ducie activation.
