Featured Member: PB2RVS (Previously PD1RVS)
The website features a personal account from PB2RVS (formerly PD1RVS), detailing their journey into amateur radio:
PB2RVS's interest in radio began around 1999 while working with Teletron TMC 82 mobile radios at an agricultural contracting company. In 2011, they acquired a Bearcat UBC 9000 XLT scanner and a Diamond V2000 antenna, starting to explore the airwaves and becoming familiar with frequency bands. Their fascination with amateur radio quickly grew, leading them to become a VERON member and obtain an NL listener number (NL13602) in 2011.
Driven by a desire to transmit, PB2RVS began studying for licenses in early 2012, initially focusing on the N license. They passed the exam on November 7, 2012, and received their first call sign, PD1RVS, allowing them to operate on 5 bands with 25 watts. Two years later, after further study with the PA0VVH course at the Nijmegen club, they successfully passed the full license exam with only 6 errors, earning the call sign PB2RVS and gaining access to all amateur frequencies with maximum permissible power.
Their interests expanded to include the 70 MHz (4-meter) band, making initial horizontal polarized contacts with a modified Yaesu FT-847 and a Create CLP 5130-1 antenna. PB2RVS also began exploring satellite operations using the Yaesu FT-847, Ham Radio Deluxe software for tracking and Doppler correction, and a self-built Arduino rotor controller for automatic antenna tracking. They are also intermittently active in 70 cm WBFM with a self-built transmitter and an Ericsson RS 2061 C amplifier. In August 2016, PB2RVS installed a Bijzen / de Kerf 3/6 mast at their parents' home, a significant project to facilitate safer work on large antennas and optimize their antenna setup in Nuland.
