Toledo Mobile Radio Association: A Hub for Amateur Radio Excellence and Community Service

The Toledo Mobile Radio Association (TMRA), based in Rossford, Ohio, has been a cornerstone of the local amateur radio community since its founding in 1954. With a proud history of service, education, and technological exploration, TMRA stands as a shining example of how amateur radio operators can make a real impact—both on the airwaves and in the community.

Community Engagement and Education at the Core

At the heart of TMRA’s mission is a commitment to education and the dissemination of knowledge about radio communications and technology. As an ARRL Special Service Club, TMRA is dedicated to promoting scientific advancements in radio, fostering public service, and encouraging hands-on experimentation in electronics and communications.

The club's members actively participate in events such as ARRL Field Day, the Ohio QSO Party, and special events like Ohio State Parks on the Air and Museum Ships on the Air (operating under call sign K8E). These events provide valuable opportunities for members to hone their skills, contribute to the community, and share the excitement of amateur radio with the broader public.

A Focus on Emergency Communication and Public Service

One of TMRA’s central objectives is to train radio operators who are capable of maintaining emergency communications during times of need. The club supports repeaters across multiple frequencies, including 2m, 6m, 220 MHz, 440 MHz, 900 MHz, as well as FM and D-STAR, ensuring reliable communication during emergencies.

In addition to emergency support, TMRA is dedicated to public service, using amateur radio as a tool to enhance communication during local events, assist in community outreach, and provide vital communication infrastructure when necessary.
