In the northwest corner of Puerto Rico, in the town of Aguadilla, the year was 1983 when a passionate group of amateur radio enthusiasts gathered to establish the Federación de Radioaficionados de Puerto Rico (FRA). Their mission was not merely to form a nonprofit organization but to ignite the flame of amateur radio in hearts across generations, preserving this borderless and universal art of communication.
A Mission That Endures: Guarding the Flame of Radio
The FRA’s roots run deep in Puerto Rican culture and community. On the last Sunday of every month at 1:00 PM, members from all corners come together in Moca to share knowledge, exchange experiences, and discuss the future of amateur radio. They believe that keeping radio activities vibrant is not just a testament to their love for technology but a promise to their community.
Here, there are no idle words or hesitation—only action. The FRA is dedicated to supporting those who truly wish to learn and be part of this organization. They not only organize contests and offer technical courses but also host events like Hamfest, licensing exams, mentoring sessions, and regular on-air bulletins, ensuring the torch of knowledge is passed from one generation to the next.
The Backbone of the Organization: FRA's Leaders
Every great endeavor requires wise and dedicated leaders. The FRA’s team includes:
- President: German Acevedo Soto, whose countless actions exemplify strong leadership.
- Vice President: Yolanda Velez Rodriguez, who inspires the team with exceptional organizational skills.
- Secretary: Edwin Rivera Feliciano, who meticulously documents every development.
- Treasurer: Irma Pagan Pagan, ensuring every cent is used to enhance the association.
- Editor: Jorge Collazo Almodovar, amplifying the voice of amateur radio enthusiasts across Puerto Rico.
