TL8ES – DXpedition to the Heart of Africa: Central African Republic

The Central African Republic (CAR), one of the most challenging locations for DXpeditioners due to its remote nature, is set to see an exciting radio operation. Elvira, IV3FSG, will be active as TL8ES from Bangui, the capital city, between November 26 and December 9, 2024.

Initially delayed due to visa issues, the operation is now confirmed, and Elvira will be QRV (on air) from the JJ94GI grid square, covering 160-6 meters. With a focus on SSB, CW, FT8, FT4, and RTTY, this DXpedition aims to provide much-needed contacts from one of the rarer entities for amateur radio enthusiasts.

Equipment and Operation Plans

Operating from one of the most challenging environments in Africa, Elvira is ready to bring the sounds of Central Africa to the global amateur radio community. The setup will include a mix of traditional modes and digital communications, with a special focus on FT8, which has become the go-to mode for many DXpeditioners due to its efficiency in weak signal conditions.

The TL8ES operation promises to be an exciting opportunity for both casual operators and serious DXers to make a contact from a rare country. As with any DXpedition, conditions can vary based on local weather, power constraints, and interference, but the operation will be focused on ensuring as many contacts as possible across the globe.

QSL Information and Log Checking

As part of her commitment to the global amateur radio community, Elvira encourages operators to check the log online and avoid duplicating contacts. A live stream will also be available, allowing participants to follow real-time updates and monitor their progress. This system helps ensure that everyone has an opportunity to make a successful contact with the DXpedition, promoting a respectful environment for all operators.

The QSL process for TL8ES will be handled via LoTW and IK2DUW, ensuring swift and efficient logging and confirmation for all successful QSOs. As always, Elvira asks operators to be courteous and avoid duplicate calls to help other hams complete their contacts as well.

About Elvira’s Extensive DXpedition History

Elvira is no stranger to the world of DXpeditions. In recent years, she has been active from a variety of rare locations, including 5X3R (Uganda), 5R8LH (Madagascar), 5U5K (Niger), ZD7Z (Saint Helena), and 9U5R (Burundi). Her extensive experience and passion for DXing have earned her a solid reputation within the global amateur radio community, and TL8ES promises to be another significant highlight in her DXpedition career.

For anyone looking to chase rare DX, TL8ES offers a prime opportunity to work the Central African Republic—an entity that doesn’t often appear on the airwaves. So, mark your calendars and stay tuned for this exciting DXpedition!
