The Eastern Shore Amateur Radio Club (ESARC), proudly operating under the call sign K4BW, has been serving the amateur radio community since its affiliation with the ARRL on March 25, 1984. Based in Onley, Virginia, ESARC fosters the spirit of amateur radio by uniting enthusiasts across Virginia’s Eastern Shore and Maryland.


Mission and Vision

Key Activities

  1. Field Day and Winter Field Day
    ESARC is an active participant in ARRL Field Day and Winter Field Day, where members demonstrate their skills in emergency communication setups and portable operations. The Winter Field Day (January 28-29, 2023) was held at the Accomack County Emergency Operations Center, showcasing the club's dedication to emergency preparedness.

  2. Weekly ARES Net
    Every Monday at 8:30 PM, ESARC hosts the ARES Net on 147.255 MHz (+0.6 MHz, PL 156.7). This weekly gathering keeps members informed and ready for emergencies.

  3. Monthly Breakfasts and Bi-Monthly Meetings

    • Breakfasts: Members gather on the third Saturday morning of each month at the Sage Diner in Onley at 8:00 AM.
    • Club Meetings: Held every other month on the 2nd Wednesday night, these meetings take place at the Sage Diner, starting with dinner at 6:00 PM followed by the meeting at 7:00 PM.

Repeater Network

ESARC operates and maintains a robust repeater system, ensuring reliable communication across multiple counties:

  • K4BW VHF System:
    • Transmitter: Accomac, VA
    • Linked Receive Sites: Mappsville, Craddockville, and Accomac, VA
  • KN4GE Repeater: Located in Eastville, VA
  • UHF Repeater: Integrated into the system for enhanced coverage.

These repeaters provide coverage to Accomack and Northampton Counties in Virginia and extend into Worcester and Somerset Counties in Maryland.
