T5/IT9HRK – Somalia Update (April 2024)

Alex (IT9HRK) has been active on HF bands as T5/IT9HRK from Mogadishu, Somalia over the last few days. Although he has been operating regularly, his activity will not count for DXCC until he secures an official Somalian license, as the country does not recognize CEPT (European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations) agreements. Therefore, his current operation is considered provisional.

Alex is attempting to secure a local license but has encountered difficulty in getting assistance from the Ministry of Information in Somalia. In the meantime, he has been primarily using SSB (Single Sideband) for communication, though he also plans to experiment with CW (Morse Code), RTTY, and FT8/FT4 modes as his schedule permits.

Background:

  • Alex has previous experience working under callsigns like YI9/IT9ADT (Iraq), 5A/IT9HRK (Libya), and T6/IT9HRK (Afghanistan).
  • His current assignment in Somalia is related to crisis management.

Stay tuned for updates on his licensing status and future activity plans.
