From December 1-10, 2024, a group of Cuban operators will activate Cayo Santa Maria (NA-204) under the callsign T46W. This DXpedition is set to provide an exciting opportunity for IOTA chasers and DX enthusiasts to log a new island in the Caribbean.
The Team Behind the Operation
The T46W team will be composed of several experienced operators, including:
- CO6XDX
- CO6XX
- CO6VV
- CO6SDY
- CO6RK
- CO6OU
- CM6EZ
- CL6AX
Together, they will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to this operation, ensuring a well-organized and active DXpedition.
Operating Plans and Frequencies
The team will be QRV on a wide range of bands, from 160m to 6m, operating across several modes including CW, SSB, and FT8. This diverse approach will help ensure that they reach a wide audience, catering to operators from all over the world and across different types of equipment.
In addition to the IOTA activation, the team will also engage in POTA (Parks on the Air) activity from CU-0292 and CU-0298, offering another chance for POTA hunters to log these Cuban parks.
Grid Location and QSL Information
The T46W operation will take place in grid square FL02LP, located on the beautiful island of Cayo Santa Maria. For those looking to confirm their contacts, QSLs should be sent via CO6QK, and log submissions will be available on LoTW.
This is a great opportunity for 6m operators and those chasing rare IOTA activations in the Caribbean, so be sure to get in touch with the team if you're looking to complete your log!
Expectations and Propagation
Given the island’s location and the team’s experience, propagation conditions on the 160-6m bands will likely vary, but the operators are prepared to handle a variety of conditions. The team will be active on 6m as conditions permit, offering a chance for QRP operators to get in the log, especially with the planned activity on FT8 and CW.
How to Work the T46W Team
For those looking to work the T46W team, be sure to keep an eye on the DX spotting networks for updates on their frequencies. As always, patience will be key, especially during peak DX conditions, but the team is experienced at handling pileups and will do their best to accommodate as many operators as possible.
Stay tuned to DX-World for further updates as this exciting DXpedition unfolds in December 2024!
